Free Crocodile Hand Puppet Crochet Pattern With Written and Video Instructions.
Hand puppets are great for storytelling, motor skill development, practicing vocabulary, expressing emotions, and confidence-building. It’s an excellent option for encouraging hands-on, screen-free play. Its would also make the perfect gift for little ones learning to play together, act out scenes, practice new words, and bring stories to life.
Mr Crocodile is super easy to make and will is the perfect pattern to allow you to practice the HDC stitch.
-MATERIALS -
· DK yarn in green, white, and red
· 3.5mm crochet hook
· Embroidery needle and scissors
· Stitch markers
· 15mm googly eyes
-ABBREVIATIONS-
· Magic Loop (I chain two and crochet into first loop to create ring)
· CH – Chain
· ST – Stitch
· SL ST – Slip stitch
· SK ST – Skip stitch
· SC – Single crochet
· HDC – Half double crochet
· DC – Double crochet
· SC2TOG – Single crochet two together
· JOIN and FO – SL ST into next ST, chain one, cut yarn
· FO- Fasten off
· FLO – Front loops only
· BLO – Back loops only
· T – Turn

· CH2 does not count as HDC.

Crocodile – make with green yarn.
1. CH3, 8HDC into the 3rd CH from hook, Join, CH2 {8}
2. 2HDC into every ST around, Join, CH2 {16}
3. HDC around, Join, CH2 {16}
4. (HDC1, 2HDC into the next ST) 8 times, Join, CH2 {24}
5. HDC around, Join, CH2 {24}
6. (HDC2, 2HDC into the next ST) 8 times, Join, CH2 {32}
7. (HDC3, 2HDC into the next ST) 8 times, Join, CH2 {40}
From now on do not join and CH2 at the end of row, just continue to work in a spiral.
8-14. HDC around {40}
15. HDC28, CH12, SK 12 STS {40} – Creating hole for bottom of mouth (thumb).
16-30. HDC around {40} - HDC into the chain spaces as normal.
Join and FO.
Re- join yarn in opening made from round 15.
31. CH2 and make 26HDC around the opening {26}
32-35. HDC around (26)
36. (HDC11, HDC2TOG) twice {24}
37. HDC around (24)
38. (HDC1, HDC2TOG) 8 times {16}
39. HDC around (16)
40. (HDC2TOG) 8 times {8}
Join and FO.
With yarn tail sew hole closed by picking up the front loop only of the remaining 8 stitches in order, and then pull tight to close.
Top Teeth – make with white yarn.
Note - *CH2 SL ST into the 2nd CH from hook* is to make a picot stitch.
1. CH51, SL ST into 2nd CH from hook, (SC, *DC, CH2 SL ST into the 2nd CH from hook, DC* all into the same ST, SC, SL ST) Repeat () across.
FO leaving a long tail to sew into place.
Pin the teeth along the top of the Crocodiles mouth then sew into place.
Bottom Teeth – make with white yarn.
Note - *CH2 SL ST into the 2nd CH from hook* is to make a picot stitch.
1. CH36, SL ST into 2nd CH from hook, (SC, *DC, CH2 SL ST into the 2nd CH from hook, DC* all into the same ST, SC, SL ST) Repeat () across.
FO leaving a long tail to sew into place.
Pin the teeth along the bottom of the Crocodiles mouth, then sew into place.
Tongue – make with pink yarn.
1. CH2, 6SC into 2nd CH from hook {6}
2. 2SC into every ST around {12}
3. (SC1, 2SC into the next ST) 6 times {18}
4. (SC2, 2SC into the next ST) 6 times {24}
5. (SC3, 2SC into the next ST) 6 times {30}
6. (SC4, 2SC into the next ST) 6 times {36}
7-12. SC around {36}
Join and FO.
Press flat and sew tongue into the back of mouth.
Eyes – make with green yarn.
1. CH2, 6SC into 2nd CH from hook {6}
2. 2SC into every ST around {12}
3. (SC1, 2SC into the next ST) 6 times {18}
4. (SC2, 2SC into the next ST) 6 times {24}
5-8. SC around {24}
9. (SC2, SC2TOG) 6 times {18}
10. (SC1, SC2TOG) 6 times {12}
Attach Googly safety eye.
Join and FO.
Stuff eyes.
With yarn tail sew hole closed by picking up the front loop only of the remaining 12 stitches in order, and then pull tight to close.
Sew eyes into place on top of head.
Back Spikes – make 3 with green yarn.
1. CH2, 6SC into 2nd CH from hook {6}
2. SC around {6}
3. 2SC into every ST around {12}
4. SC around {12}
5. (SC1, 2SC into the next ST) 6 times {18}
6-7. SC around {18}
Join and FO.
Press flat and sew into place down back.
